Introduction

This unit is externally assessed by means of a case study and an exam.

The unit is about organisations and their use of ICT. You will be looking at the functions and depts. of an organisation and how these individual depts use their ICT. In our modern society almost all business use ICT in some way from mobile phones to wireless networks. Uses of ICT can include:

• Computerised account systems and sales ledgers
• Payroll systems such as ITNet
• Databases of customer and employee details
• Web sites and flyers to advertise their products
• Wireless and Cat5e networks
• Email
• Invoicing and ordering systems
• Contact management
• Laptop computers with wireless modems

This list is by no means exhaustive and organisations take on the use of new technologies as they become available.
